滴灌属全管道输水和局部微量灌溉，使水分的渗漏和损失降低到最低限度。同时，又由于能做到适时地供应作物根区所需水分，不存在外围水的损失问题，又使水的利用效率大大提高。灌溉可方便地结合施肥，即把化肥溶解后灌注入灌溉系统，由于化肥同灌溉水结合在一起，肥料养分直接均匀地施到作物根系层，真正实现了水肥同步，大大提高了肥料的有效利用率，同时又因是小范围 局部控制，微量灌溉，水肥渗漏较少，故可节省化肥施用量。运用灌溉施肥技术，为作物及时补充价格昂贵的微量元素提供了方便，并可避免浪费。 滴灌系统仅通过阀门人工或自动控制，又结合了施肥，故又可明显节省劳力投入，降低了 生产成本,提高了资源利用率，保证了全覆盖灌溉。

传统沟灌的大棚，一次灌水量大，地表长时间保持湿润，不但棚温、地温降低太快，回升较慢，且 蒸发量加大，室内湿度太高，易导致蔬菜或花卉病虫害发生。因 滴灌属于局部 微灌，大部分土壤表面保持干燥，且 滴头均匀缓慢地向根系 土壤层供水，对 地温的保持、回升，减少水分蒸发，降低室内湿度等均具有明显的效果。采用 膜下滴灌，即把 滴灌管（带）布置在膜下，效果更佳。另外滴灌由于操作方便，可实行高频灌溉，且出流孔很小，流速缓慢，每次灌水时间比较长， 土壤水分变化幅度小，故可控制根区内土壤能够长时间保持在接近于最适合蔬菜、花卉等生长的湿度。由于控制了室内空气湿度和 土壤湿度，可明显减少病虫害的发生，进而又可减少农药的用量。
